Needle and Hammer
Ringe, Silber, Silber geschwärzt, Bi-Metall, Kupfer
Danuta Uhlig
I’ve been doing the KnitWork-series – knitted rings and bracelets in gold and silver – seemingly forever. The strongly textured surfaces and the completely different appearance of front and back – which allows wearing the bracelets on both sides – are endlessly fascinating. The pieces are compact and substantial without being overbearing.
The HammerWork-series is the exact opposite, born out of a longing to work more dynamically and to create more dramatic shapes. Here simple geometric shapes of sheet (silver, copper, Bi-metal) undergo a process of folding, forging, unfolding and are thus transformed from their two-dimensional strictness into three-dimensional organic shapes that are light and airy. They are pieces made out of one piece.
Whereas the KnitWork feels almost impalpable the forged pieces are worn like an evening gown, in full gala and with care.
